Downtown Art Walk

In this economy, finding quality things to do at little to no cost has become an important determining factor in social/nightlife. The Downtown Art Walk is truly a quality event that hasn’t let me down yet. Besides being FREE, it’s just nice seeing people come out of the woodwork or after a long day of work to wander around the galleries with friends or strangers and have a good time. No lines. No cover. No dress code. The city comes alive and you truly see the diversity, the people. Everyone is so well dressed and stylish! (Inspiring in it’s own way.) I love LA for all of it’s imperfections. The traffic sucks. The air quality is sub-par. But, I love LA for all it’s potential.

I’m already counting down to Summer. I can’t wait for the days to get longer. LA truly shines around that time of year. There is always something new to see and experience in the city. I think that’s why I want to move there so much. I love the people, the pace of life. I want to be surrounded by it until I get sick of it.

I borrowed my brother’s SLR . I severely underestimated how difficult it is shooting at night on manual settings. I’m constantly switching back and forth adjusting f-stops, ISO’s, and shutter-speed – trying to reject the temptation of using the camera flash. It really is a challenging hobby and I hope to learn a lot more! I’ve really grown attached to LA’s monthly Downtown Art Walk. I always comeback inspired. Here’s a little taste of LA for you all!

Just experimenting with exposure times. It’s so beautiful, yet so… overdone.

I absolutely fell in love with the contrast of this sign against the dark night sky.

I love this alley. Some of the best things are tucked away out of sight. As you walk deeper into the alley, it gets darker, the smell of marijuana fills the air. I looked down at the concrete ground and just saw “WEED?” with an arrow pointing ahead written in chalk. It was time to turn back.

To me, getting a haircut is a very intimate experience. To walk by and just see the guy get his haircut in front of strangers and onlookers is surprisingly endearing.

If this doesn’t scream LA then I don’t know what will.

I love portraits. I love girls. I love portraits of girls. This scale of this piece is amazing. I’m not too fond that it is just a large black and white print of the girl with the artist adding colors and texture on top. Essentially it’s a big ass coloring book- but it definitely has a unique quality. I love when artists paint live. I love seeing the process.
