Purple Hearts Elusive For Traumatic Brain Injuries

This is definitely a tough one. Do soldiers who suffer from brain injuries deserve the Purple Heart? Although this has been sitting on my desk a few weeks, I’m still torn on the issue. On one hand, I don’t want to diminish the value and meaning of the Purple Heart on the other hand I believe that those who have risked their lives for service should be recognized.

I do believe that the army needs to do away with this ad hoc process of awarding purple hearts. There has to be a much clearer and concise way of sorting through these applications. They need to do away with looking for loop holes to NOT give away purple hearts.

Check out Recognize The Sacrifice to learn more about this organization that’s fighting to have TBI be eligible for purple hearts.
